What is DALL-E?

Generative AI is booming online and DALL-E/DALLE-E-2 and later versions are playing an important role in that. What is DALL-E and how can you use it?

DALL-E (or DALL-E 2) is a large language model (LLM) created by OpenAI that can generate realistic images from text prompts. The name DALL-E is a ‘portmanteau’ of Salvador Dalí and WALL-E, the Pixar robot.

DALL-E works by taking a text prompt and using a generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) model to generate a corresponding image. The GPT model is trained on a massive dataset of text-image pairs, so it can learn to associate certain words and phrases with certain visual features. For example, if you give DALL-E the prompt “a cat wearing a hat”, it will generate an image of a cat wearing a hat.

It has already been used to create amazing images including the one above this blog: a painting of a cyberpunk by Vincent Van Gogh by generated myself.

DALL-E is a powerful tool that has the potential to be used for a variety of purposes. For example, it could be used to create realistic marketing materials, to generate new ideas for art, or to help people with visual impairments.

Here are some of the things that DALL-E can do:

• ✔️ Generate realistic images from text prompts.
• ✔️ Combine concepts, attributes, and styles.
• ✔️ Render text, and apply transformations to existing images.
• ✔️ Create anthropomorphized versions of animals and objects.
• ✔️ Combine unrelated concepts in plausible ways.

And that also includes:

✔️ Creating NFTs.

The good news in comparison with other tools like Midjourney is that:

“Subject to the Content Policy and Terms, you own the images you create with DALL. E, including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise – regardless of whether an image was generated through a free or paid credit”.
