What is virtual organising?
Since the beginning of the Covid-19, many corporates, startups, scaleups and SMEs have been forced by lockdowns to ‘virtual organise’ their company and fast. Introducing hybrid working, working at home, remote working and remote management.
What is virtual organising? Here is my definition.
Virtual organising is designing and implementing a virtual organisational design, characterized by the absence of a shared physical space between members in the organisation. The virtual organisation members work together through telecommunication.
Particularly as a result of the rise of the internet and new technology in general, including inexpensive bandwidth and smarthone the feasibility of virtual organising increased sharply. For corporates, for startups, for scaleups and for solopreneurs including a virtual business school for instance and people organising different types of virtual events.
Formal and informal virtual organisations.
It should be noted here that it can be a formal or an informal virtual organisational form. Many companies became a kind of virtual organisation in 1-day because of local lockdowns and everybody had to start to work from home. And think of all the informal organisational forms of virtual organisations like online communities, groups on LinkedIn, on Facebook or on other social media platforms.
Permanent and temporarily virtual organisations.
Next to that, there are also permanent virtal organisations like the virtual business school we are designing and building and virtual organisations that online exist for a limited number of time like virtual conferences or other types of virtual events.
