Traditional Outplacement Programs Are Useless

Traditional Outplacement Programs Are Useless

Good morning, more and more highley-educated senior managers and employees in Financial Services worldwide are losing their job because of Covid-19.

And most large Financial Institutions are organising traditional outplacement programs for those people like the one I followed before I left ABN Amro at the end of 2011.

What is traditional outplacement?

The original definition (from Wikipedia) of ‘outplacement’ is:

‘the provision of assistance to redundant employees in finding new employment, either as a benefit provided by the employer directly, or through a specialist service.’

What do you learn in traditional outplacement programs?

In many traditional (internal) outplacement programs you learn how to make c.v.’s, how to write letters, how to be found by headhunters and corporates on LinkedIn and how to present yourself during interviews at corporates.

But as there less and less positions for highly-trained professionals in the industry with those types of large companies, so that is actually a waste of your precious time, money and energy. Although many headhunters and executive search & recruitment firms will tell you something different.
